UC-Santa Barbara's Alan Williams has been selected as the StatSheet Big West Player of the Week for the week ending March 4th. StatSheet's Big West Freshman of the Week is Hawaii's Isaac Fotu.
Williams led the Big West in rebounding (12.5 per game) and free throws (9.0 per game). He also had huge numbers in shooting (50%), assists (3 per game), and scoring (23 pts per game). The UC-Santa Barbara sophomore played well in a win against Cal State Northridge and a loss to Hawaii.
Williams posted 14 points and 9 rebounds in 34 minutes in a 70-66 loss to Hawaii. In the next game he led all scoring and rebounding with a 32 point and 16 rebound performance in an 83-74 victory against Cal State Northridge.
This is a familiar honor for Alan Williams, who has been selected StatSheet Big West Player of the Week three times. He has also been named a runner-up once and received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is sophomore J.T. Adenrele from UC Davis. Honorable mention goes to Chris Eversley, a junior from Cal Poly. Keala King was the highest ranking player from Long Beach State, finishing fourth.
StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week: Hawaii's Isaac Fotu
Isaac Fotu averaged 34 minutes of playing time starting both games for Hawaii. He led all Big West freshmen in both scoring (14.5 pts per game) and free throws (4.5 per game). In a late 70-66 win over UC-Santa Barbara, Fotu contributed 2 assists and 60% shooting. Then in a 64-61 loss to Cal Poly, he led scoring with 17 points on 53% shooting.
This is the second StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week honor for Isaac Fotu. The runner-up is Brian Bennett from Cal Poly. Honorable mention goes to Michael Bryson from UC-Santa Barbara. Long Beach State has 3 StatSheet Big West Player of the Week wins this season.
